ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

CORONAVIRUS AND BLACK AMERICA
OUR MISSION
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has begun to have severe effects on Black American communities. We are now seeing that this virus is disproportionately affecting Black Americans nationwide. New Orleans is currently ranked 5th in the United States for confirmed COVID-19 cases per capita. According to the Louisiana Department of Health, over 50% of COVID-19 deaths in the state are Black Americans, while only about 1/3 of the state’s residents are Black. These staggering statistics highlight existing health inequities and make for an alarming situation. The Skin You’re In: Coronavirus and Black America (TSYI) aims to provide health information and resources intended to reduce the impact of this pandemic.

The Skin You’re In: Coronavirus and Black America is a social marketing campaign to dispel myths and raise awareness in the community about staying safe and healthy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing a multi-layered education campaign, TSYI delivers timely, accurate, and relevant information about COVID-19’s effect on Black Americans in the Greater New Orleans area.

This campaign is designed to be shared across a variety of channels including news broadcasts, social media, print and billboard advertisements, radio, partnerships with local organizations and businesses, and more.

This campaign is also directly involved with the Louisiana COVID-19 Health Equity Force, which looks at how health inequities are affecting communities that are most impacted by the coronavirus.
